The alternative, honestly, is simply to stop using it (for my use case, of course). I can even opt to a more rougher approach (as content generator) and have a "button/link" to a page simply saying something "want to thank me? I'm a musician, buy one of my records", and as a flatterer to donate in whichever other option there is, if any...
In other words: quitting Flattr wouldn't be any kind of big deal to me, and so my question really is "how small is 'the price to pay'"?
+Gil Gonçalves thanks, gittip is quite interesting, even if quite a different beast. The 'mandatory concurrency' makes it have a quite different use case, but it is indeed an interest tool to say "I love your work you're doing on X and I want to contribute to its ongoing funding".
